- 1. Extensions → cytado → Find source — panel on the right.
- 2. Sign in with your cytado account (once).
- 3. Select a sentence → Find source → Insert footnote.
The footnote is a real Google Docs footnote — it numbers and moves with your text.

When can I install the add-on?
The add-on is built and working — it is going through Google Workspace Marketplace review (typically days to a few weeks). A cytado account created today will work in the add-on from day one — and until then, the same sources are available in the Word add-in and the MCP connector.
How do I know the sources are real?
Every result is an existing publication with a link to the original, a printed page number and a quote from that page. When nothing supports a claim, you get an honest “not found” — the tool never invents sources.
Does the add-on read my whole document?
No. cytado receives only what you submit: the selected sentence and your thesis topic. The rest of the document never leaves Google Docs, and cytado has no access to your Google account or Drive files.
How much does it cost?
The add-on and the account are free; the free pool is 100 resolved citations a month with no card. Paid plans start at $19/month. You pay only for citations you actually received.
How do I revoke access?
In the cytado panel (Account → API) deactivate the “Google Docs add-on” key — access is revoked immediately.
